Some Lib Dem bloggers have been a bit harsh towards 30-year old Chandila Fernando for his decision to enter the race to be President of the Liberal Democrats.
Speaking as someone who has publicly supported Ros Scott for Party President for a year, I think Chandila deserves to be congratulated on entering the race.
1. It is a big risk for his reputation; if he has the courage to put that at stake, good luck to him.
2. Whether you agree with his ideas or not, he clearly take the role of President seriously and does not see it as a jolly.
3. The suggestion by some bloggers that his candidacy is about a more right-wing policy agenda is not evidenced in his manifesto or anything he has said.
4. I don’t really see that an STV election can have too many candidates.
I expect he will have some interesting things to say.
